Harry Black

Award-winning novelist Harry Black, born in 1968, is an English writer of historical and political fiction. His work explores history’s moral fault lines and the human cost of secrecy, conflict and survival.

He grew up in England with a deep fascination for history: not only the grand narratives, but also the quieter and often overlooked moments where private lives collide with public catastrophe.

That sensibility underpins his fiction, characterised by slow-burn tension, emotional restraint and attention to what is left unsaid as much as what is revealed.

David Scholes is the author of Without Prejudice, published by Troubador in 2008, a nonfiction account of his experiences during the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts, written with the same clarity and honesty that now informs his fiction.

Writing as Harry Black, he received a Literary Titan Book Award for Pegasus Road in 2025, a historical novella set against the Second World War.

His fiction combines political intrigue with deeply personal stakes, moving from wartime Europe towards intelligence networks and contested landscapes.

He lives in Cheshire, England.
